project 01: (mis)communication: encounter with the glitch

[ Enquiry ]

To explore the relationship between humans and technology, looking into how glitches can emerge as moments of awakening, offering glimpses of possibility and empowerment; applying glitch as a conceptual tool. I drew on my experiences as someone who is neurodivergent and the struggles entangled with this, whether it is reading, speaking, or simply communicating my ideas to others, often needed in a linear manner which is not the way I think. I describe this rhizomatic mess of entanglements that happens during communication, and this made me think about how I can imply this in my work through matter. The wires I was working with became a way of grasping the technology itself, navigating my experiences of this ‘glitch’ and poetically opening up this conversation with others. This led to my research on information theory within engineering as a way of understanding language and communication. I was able to compare the ways in which humans and machines encode and decode information within information processing to transfer data from one ‘brain’ to another.
